Bernard Madoff gaat mogelijk de geschiedenis in als grootste fraudeur ooit. Madoff (70), voormalig NASDAQ voorman, wordt beschuldigd van het in een piramide achtige constructie duperen van duizenden mensen, bedrijven en instellingen. In totaal voor 50 miljard dollar.

Beloof investeerders een hoge rente, tot 15 procent, verlies dat geld bij het handelen, trek nieuwe investeerders aan om die verliezen te camoufleren, vergok dat wederom op de beursvloer, trek weer nieuwe investeerders aan om de verliezen af te dekken en zo ga je door tot je 50 miljard hebt gemold. Dit, uiteraard zonder er thuis slechter van te worden.

Zo ging Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities dus jarenlang te werk. Met de kredietcrisis wilden een aantal investeerders waaronder rijke stinkerds, banken en hedge funds ter waarde van 7 miljard dollar geld terug, wat natuurlijk niet lukte en zo kwam de megafraude aan het licht.

Gladpratende stropdassen in geldzaken liepen al een stuk schuchterder over straat, maar durven nu alleen nog maar ‘s avonds naar buiten. Je zou haast medelijden krijgen.
